DC Public Schools in Action – 104 Employees, 7,500 Meals a Day

Published on : 4/17/20
  • Can you imagine distributing 7,500 meals per day? That’s a jaw-dropping number but the SodexoMagic team at DC Public Schools makes it look easy.

COVID-19 triggered an instant response from the teams in the DC area. Within 48 hours, more than a dozen emergency sites were opened to serve meals that students depend on.

Now, 104 frontline employees are supporting multiple locations where students can stop by for a meal Monday through Friday between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm. Employees prepare “grab and go” breakfast and lunch options. This could include cereal, milk, fruit, cold healthy meals, and sandwiches.

While the meals are intended for DCPS students and their families, the SodexoMagic team welcomes all with open arms and will not turn anyone from receiving a nutritious meal during these hard times. The team has expressed that they are there to serve their community and here’s what they had to say!

Sandra Hodge, a Team Lead who has served at DC Public Schools for 30 years said, "This is my passion, kids are my passion. I couldn't think of another place I could be today, other than to help feed the kids and the community because this is what we're here for. We're here to feed."

James Harris, Team Lead who has served for 11 years said, “I felt it was good to come back and help feed the community and the kids during this time of need, to give a little back."
