When Devo Parker first moved to Nashville, he never imagined that his career journey would lead him to a management position in the food service industry. With a background in warehouse management, restaurant work, and as a private chef, he had always been passionate about food. But like many others, the pandemic changed everything. With the restaurant world on pause and nighttime work no longer sustainable, Devo set out to find something different, something that would give him a better work-life balance.

That’s when he found a position at Sodexo, starting as a dishwasher during the pandemic. What began as a practical decision for daytime hours quickly transformed into something far more fulfilling. Over time, he discovered that Sodexo offered more than just a job, it was a place where hard work and passion could take him as far as he wanted. Today, he serves as Operations Manager at HCA Healthpark, in Brentwood, TN, leading a team and creating opportunities for others, just as he had been given.

A New Beginning: Discovering Growth and Opportunity

Devo ParkerWhen Devo first joined Sodexo, he was excited by the stability and work-life balance the position offered, something he hadn’t experienced in previous roles. As he settled into his role, he began to see that the opportunity was much more than just a better schedule, it was the start of a meaningful career with a company that truly invests in its people.

“The hours were perfect, and the benefits were great, but I soon saw that Sodexo was much more than just a job. It was a real opportunity for growth,” he says.

Our company culture of promoting from within played a big role in Devo’s decision to stay and explore new opportunities. Starting as a dishwasher, he took on additional responsibilities and soon moved into a cashier role as business picked up. When a catering assistant position opened, Devo saw this as his chance to take the next step in his career.

“I started taking my work more seriously. I realized that Sodexo really does invest in its people, and if I put in the effort, I could go far,” he says.

Devo’s decision to embrace these opportunities set him on a path to leadership.

As Devo’s career progressed, the opportunity to become Operations Manager opened up and he stepped into the role with enthusiasm. Leveraging his years of experience in the restaurant industry, he quickly realized that leadership was about more than managing tasks. It was about inspiring a team, offering support, and creating a culture where everyone feels valued.

“Taking on a leadership role has been a challenge, but also incredibly rewarding. Now I am not just managing tasks; I am leading people, inspiring them to do their best,” he shares. 

Today, Devo leads a team of cashiers, chefs, and catering staff, making it a priority to ensure everyone feels appreciated and empowered to grow. His role as Operations Manager is about more than just overseeing operations; it’s about building an environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Every morning, Devo begins the day with a team huddle, where he sets priorities and expectations, ensuring everyone understands their roles and has the support they need to succeed. His days are a balance of strategic planning, coordination, and continuous learning.
