Our Approach to Responsible Sourcing 

We’ve collaborated with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) since 2010 to spearhead conservation efforts and minimize environmental footprints across key product categories. With WWF's expertise, we've developed sustainable practices for seafood, fruits and vegetables, palm oil, soy, beef, and dairy sourcing.  

Committed to achieving 100% sustainable* fish and seafood globally by 2025, we are a founding partner and Steering Board member of the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) and we work with our suppliers alongside our technical partner the WWF.  

Our partnerships extend to respected organizations like the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council and Business for Social Responsibility, ensuring accountability in responsible sourcing.  

Additionally, we empower local communities when we prioritize local and seasonal foods through our produce vendor partners. Join us in supporting over 2,000 farmers and farmer co-ops, alongside more than 75 regional produce distributors, in building a more sustainable future.

Ensuring Health and Wellbeing 

Our partners are required to follow our supplier specifications, and they receive support and assistance through a quality monitoring plan that includes regular audits. We have strict standards for selecting products and suppliers in order to ensure we source safe, nutritious and quality food. We check these standards using a rigorous and objective testing process.

Protecting the Environment 

We protect the environment through choices about who we source from, what we buy and how we work with our suppliers. By promoting sustainable fish and seafood options, ensuring deforestation free supply chains and transitioning to more reusable food containers we are reducing the impact our business has on the environment. In addition, we are also actively choosing to work with suppliers that share our commitment to reducing emissions.

Fostering Social Equity 

Our Supplier Code of Conduct is fundamental to our approach; it ensures that our suppliers comply with responsible ethical, social and environmental practices. Our global Supply Chain Inclusion Program proactively seeks to increase spend with small medium enterprises (SMEs) in the US considered small businesses as well as businesses 51% owned and controlled by women or underrepresented groups as defined by country within our supply base.

We hold ourselves accountable to responsible business practices with our clients, partners and suppliers. 

Therefore, we put in place policies and codes to frame our practices and expected behaviors around key issues such as respect for human rights, animal welfare and sourcing policies.
