big group of workers

Overview

For more than six years now, Sodexo has been managing the facilities for offices of a large oil and gas company in Midland, Texas.

During a winter storm in 2021, two hot and cold coils ruptured in a rooftop air handler unit on one of the main buildings on site. Our team demonstrated their proactive problem-solving capabilities by executing a skilled replacement of the equipment and illustrating to the client that our engineering team can successfully execute large-scale projects.

Challenge

The initial execution strategy to replace the ruptured coils was to work with an approved subcontractor. However, several scheduling issues and significant cost variations stood in the way of delivering this service in a timely and cost-efficient manner. The Sodexo project management team felt compelled to find another solution for the client.

Solution

The solution was for Sodexo to take on the execution of this project. Within an eight-month timeline, the team of eight service improvement contributors — including engineers, safety managers and HVAC technicians — successfully completed the replacement of the hot and cold coils in the rooftop air handler unit.

The self-performance of this replacement project represents a 40% reduction of the original cost projected by the subcontractor, saving significant expenses for the client.

Results

The client was satisfied with the skillful replacement of the facilities equipment. Our planning, safe work practices and cost-saving solutions displayed our capacity for efficiency and driving up service standards by proactively problem solving.

With this project, we were able to deliver the requirements of its scope and broaden our operational capabilities, strengthening the client’s confidence in our team.
