Bring The Farm To Your Table
In late 2019, trucks loaded with fresh produce simultaneously made their way through the country, creating the Largest Farmers Market @ Campuses Across America. This food-focused event brought together students and community farmers like never before.
The markets sold fresh apples and greens to hungry college students – 95% of whom don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. Together, they also demonstrated the benefits of local sourcing. Farm to campus meals offer healthy and sustainable options that support local economies, while addressing a critical deficiency in nutrition.
“The apples being harvested today will be brought to the farmers’ market,” said Terence Bradshaw, director of University of Vermont’s Catamount Educational Farm. “[It’s] part of Sodexo’s initiative to support the farm and bring local foods to the campus community.”

Want to bring a market to your campus or neighborhood? Our team suggests:
- Find community partners connected with local farmers and artisans;
- Secure an outdoor space with an indoor back-up;
- Recruit volunteers to help promote and assist during the market;
- Stage cooking demonstrations and give out recipe tips;
- Don’t forget to grab a bushel of local produce for yourself!
