Take a Strategic Approach to Your Career Search

The Great Resignation, the Great Reshuffle, the Big Quit and the Great Rethink are all different names for the same phenomenon – from early 2021 onward, workers have quit or changed jobs at record rates.

This massive shift in workers combined with the effects of the global pandemic make it the perfect time to be more strategic in your career search

Here are some of my top tips for job seekers as you apply and accept a job offer:

Utilize Company Resources
Great employers provide candidates like you with resources to learn about the environment you’ll work in, benefits and even COVID-19 response strategies before you apply.

Ask Questions
Once you have done your research, develop meaningful questions to ask the recruiter and hiring manager about the hiring process, the specific role and how this job will provide you with personal career growth.

Here are some examples:
•   What skills do you believe will help someone excel in this opportunity?
•   Where can this role take my career in the next 2-5 years?
•   When can I expect to hear back from someone about the next steps?
•   What kind of benefits do you offer?

Check Your Voicemail
After a recent update from communication providers, some calls from unknown numbers are marked as spam and accidentally silencing calls from recruiters or hiring managers. If you are waiting for a call from an employer, be sure to check your voicemail in case this happens to one of your important calls.

Benefit from Benefits
As you ask about benefits during the interview process, there are some unique ones that I encourage you to learn more about. Hospital indemnity insurance, critical illness insurance, tuition reimbursement, flexible work arrangements, 401k savings plan match and other wellness programs.

Network
Connect with the recruiters and hiring managers that you meet. Follow employers of interest and review successful employee profiles that can help you learn what characteristics help someone excel in your targeted career path.
