Food and beverage program captures the best of Birmingham at the new, state-of-the-art venue

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., September 30, 2021 – Protective Stadium today announced the features of its food and beverage program, curated with hospitality partner Sodexo Live!, which will help foster one of the most exciting fan experiences, when the multi-purpose venue opens for its first UAB home game this Saturday, October 2nd. Sodexo Live! will seek to provide many jobs for local residents and employ the most rigorous safety standards for employees and guests alike.

Whether visiting from out-of-town or a long-time Birmingham foodie, guests will be assured a fresh, delicious, enjoyable dining experience in a memorable setting. The $200-million dollar multi-purpose stadium is the result of successful collaboration between the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center Authority, Jefferson County, the City of Birmingham, the Jefferson County Legislative Delegation, and the Birmingham corporate community.

Fans can be excited for items that include, but are not limited to:

  • The Sloss Dog (Protective Stadium’s Signature Hot Dog) – served with mustard, relish, chili, barbecue onions and sauerkraut. Sloss Furnaces, a National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, embodies how the iron and steel industry impacted the growth of the city
  • The Magic Dragon (Protective Stadium’s Signature Cocktail) – a fizzy twist on a spicy margarita, made with handmade local strawberry-lemon syrup, mixed with Dread River vodka and infused with fresh jalapeño and honey vinegar
  • Local food truck offerings: Yo’ Mama’s Shrimp and Grits and Broad Street Peaux Boys
  • Sloss Smokehouse BBQ Nachos – house-smoked pulled pork served with cheese sauce and topped with a sweet BBQ sauce
  • Assorted local Birmingham beers from Ghost Train Brewing Company, Back Forty Beer Company, TrimTab Brewing, Cahaba Brewing Co, Avondale Brewing Company and Good People Brewing Company and more
  • The Spicy Chicken Sandwich – hand-breaded chicken breast served with pickles on a toasted bun
  • Short Rib Philly – braised short ribs with a white cheddar cheese cause, grilled peppers, and onions on a hoagie roll

“We look forward to scaling the overall events and hospitality business as we make Protective Stadium a year-round venue that can host gatherings of all sizes. Our operational excellence and a program from Regional Executive Chefs Jennifer Bargisen and Marc Spooner will ensure that we capture the best flavors that Birmingham has to offer.”
