ISO 45001 certification helps Sodexo meet occupational health and safety management systems requirements

GAITHERSBURG, MARYLAND – Nov. 19, 2020 – Sodexo North America Headquarters has received ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management systems certification from NSF-ISR, an NSF International company. The ISO 45001 standard provides the framework for an organization to establish an occupational health and safety management system to increase safety, reduce workplace risks, prevent work-related injuries and ill health, and create an organizational culture supporting continual improvement, which in turn supports the company’s bottom line.

Sodexo USA is proud to announce that our Service Operations HSE department and HSE governance team has earned the ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Certification.

By achieving ISO 45001 certification through NSF-ISR, Sodexo demonstrates a commitment to excellence and best practices to support a healthy and safer work environment through the implementation of an occupational health and safety management system.

Brigette Philpot, North America Vice President of Health, Safety, and Environment, says: "We are very proud to have achieved certification to the world’s first global occupational health and safety management system standard. Achieving the ISO 45001 certification was a rigorous and in-depth process, requiring the participation of our governance HSE team including interviewing managers and health care providers. This achievement represents strong, third-party validation of Sodexo’s longstanding commitment to the health and safety of our employees.”

The ISO 45001:2018 standard specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, and gives guidance for its use, to enable organizations to provide safe and healthy workplaces by preventing work-related injury and ill health, as well as by proactively improving its OH&S performance.

Husein Kitabwalla, North America CEO Service Operations, says “Achieving this accredited certification demonstrates our continued commitment to providing the highest standards of safety as part of our zero-harm culture of care. We will continue to invest in the improvement of our processes and procedures to demonstrate a forward thinking, proactive approach, resulting in continual improvement and positive impact for our stakeholders.”
