Supporting Caregivers: Building a Culture of Appreciation at HCA Healthcare

Caregivers face a demanding and often overwhelming role, from managing complex patient needs and navigating high patient volumes to coping with the emotional toll of patient situations.
At HCA Healthcare facilities, the vital role of caregivers is celebrated through the “Caregiver Lifter” program. This monthly initiative focuses on recognizing these everyday heroes and reflects each hospital’s deep commitment to building a culture of appreciation.
A Taste of Appreciation
The program allows for caregivers to take a moment and step away from their demanding tasks, even if only for a short time, to recharge and enjoy a well-deserved treat.
The offerings vary each month, and past treats have included beautifully decorated donuts, freshly popped popcorn and a variety of other delicious snacks. These small indulgences serve not just as a break from the workday, but as a reminder that caregivers' contributions matter and are truly valued.
Megan Koorn, Chief Nursing Officer at UCF Lake Nona Hospital in Orlando, FL, shared her perspective on the importance of this initiative:
Caregiver rounds are more than just a monthly gesture; they’re a meaningful way to honor the dedication of healthcare workers, fueling their spirit and lifting morale as they continue to care for others with compassion and excellence.
The Power of Recognition
In a healthcare environment where burnout is all too common, moments of respite are essential. A simple space to take a break, enjoy a snack, and feel appreciated can boost morale and be a powerful motivator for caregivers to continue providing exceptional care to those who need it most.
