It’s All #ThanksToThem! Sodexo celebrates Employee Appreciation Day
Today is National Employee Appreciation Day! Sodexo teams are being celebrated across the country, with many sharing their stories on social media using #SodexoThanksU and #ThanksToThem.
If there has ever been a year when our employees deserve abundant recognition and kudos, this is it. We’ve faced more adversity in the past 12 months than I recall experiencing in the past decade.
Times have been tough, but Sodexo teams stepped up to the challenge. The stories of compassion, teamwork and heroism have embodied our Sodexo values and the Spirit of Service.
Today, I’d like to put the spotlight on several teams who’ve made a real impact over the past year, while wishing all Sodexo employees a Happy Employee Appreciation Day. #SodexoThanksU!
University Teams Fight Winter Storms to Serve Students and Staff
When the weather got tough, our teams got going. Keeping college students fed and with clean drinking water was a top priority on campuses across the South.
Student workers and Greek organizations stepped up to help at Alcorn State University in Mississippi and Jackson State University in Louisiana, putting in long hours to support the staff tasked with keeping the campus fed during severe weather.
The team at Tarleton State University in Texas was able to purchase and use a 500-gallon water tank, as well as 70 cases of water, to support many of our Texas accounts in keeping their operations going.
Employees at Arkansas State University battled hazardous roads by riding-sharing with friends, family, and co-workers in four-wheel drive vehicles to get through the sleet and 12 inches of snow that hit their community. The students and faculty were thankful for the great food and service during the weeklong storm.
Healthcare teams tirelessly support their communities during COVID-19
Sodexo’s teams in Healthcare have worked tirelessly since the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic. We celebrate their commitment and passion to stand together. We honor their willingness to serve their communities during these unprecedented times. Here are just a few examples of the work they’ve done in the past year.
Executive Chef Fred Johnson proves that food has the power to bring us together
When the US Capitol building was breached by rioters on January 6, Chef Fred rallied his team to prepare food to feed the exhausted US Capitol Police Force, House Members, staff, and lingering reporters in the aftermath of the conflict. The care and support they showed on that day represented true Sodexo spirit!
DC Public Schools Distribute 7,500 Meals a Day
COVID-19 triggered an instant response from teams in the DC area. Within 48 hours, more than a dozen emergency sites were opened to serve meals that students depend on. Sandra Hodge, a team lead who has served at DC Public Schools for 30 years said, "This is my passion, kids are my passion. I couldn't think of another place I could be today, other than to help feed the kids and the community because this is what we're here for. We're here to feed."
JJouana Huston was awarded the Sodexo CARES Award
When Jouana’s colleague, Ann, was admitted to the hospital with a terminal illness during COVID-19, visitors weren’t allowed. As her condition worsened, Jouana was permitted to visit and provide comfort to Ann in the days before she passed. Sodexo presented Jouana with the Sodexo Seniors CARES Award for her act of compassion during this immensely challenging time.
Supporting Seniors One Delivery and Smile at a Time
Fellowship CommunityThe senior population was the hardest hit during the pandemic with many being isolated from family and loved ones. While isolation may be the safest option, it was also very difficult. Sodexo employees have not only stepped up to the plate to keep residents safe from exposure during mealtime, but they’ve also injected some much-needed cheer into their days. Here are some inspiring examples of how our employees have gone more than the extra mile.
These stories are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the impact our employees are making on the lives of others. If you’d like to join our team, we have hourly and management positions available across the country.
