Every year on the 4th of July, I pause and reflect on my independence and those who heroically serve and protect our nation. It is through their efforts that our country enjoys freedom and because of their countless sacrifices and contributions, we are a stronger nation. It is our duty as Americans to not take for granted the commitment of our military men, women, and families.

I am proud to serve as the Executive Sponsor for HONOR, Sodexo’s military employee network group that provides support, guidance, and resources to employees and families connected to the military. Sodexo and HONOR demonstrate we care and value this constituency group by celebrating their contributions, partnering with community-based organizations, and offering professional development. HONOR recently launched “HONOR your HERO,” an internal campaign that spotlights and pays tribute to our amazing employees who served this country. In addition, we recently sent more than 3800 letters of appreciation to active duty military service members through “A Million Thanks” campaign.

If you share my appreciation for our deployed men and women, participate in Sodexo’s “R.E.D. Friday” campaign by wearing red the first Friday of each month. You can also support our military service members by engaging in events such as 9/11 Heroes Run, Stand Downs, Missing Man Table, Honor Flight, and more.

To our men and women in uniform, past, present, and future, thank you.

Happy 4th of July.

One of the most important character traits is our ability to give someone the benefit of the doubt - to not jump to conclusions. In short, to show respect. Respect for someone’s culture, their choices and their ideas make us better. It broadens our view of the world and it allows us to grow.

As an Executive Sponsor for HONOR, Sodexo’s employee business resource group, I invite you to join me as an ally and demonstrate your appreciation for our nation’s heroes – those in the military and their family members. We salute them and support their future success.

As a non-military employee, being a part of HONOR, has helped me see the challenges our Veterans can encounter – often times unnecessarily – and brings to light the issues that matter to them and the communities they serve. I can think of no better way to HONOR Your Hero than to do what we can to ensure that those who fought for our country can find deserved respect and HONOR at Sodexo, too.
